Stutter

Stutter were formed at the start of 1993 by drummer Matt Booth. The band featured Nick Powell on vocals, Jo Evans on bass, Matt Booth on drums, Angelo Bruschini on guitar (formally in the Blue Aeroplanes and The Rimshots) and Dom McCaffry on guitar (formally in The Big Bad Wolves and Gloucestershire band The Things).

They were managed by Jeremy Ainsley and spent the whole of 1993 playing gigs in Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Plymouth, Exeter, Newport and London.

They supported many bands including Ocean Colour Scene, The Fall, Chuck Prophet, Strangelove, Superchunk and Blue Aeroplanes.

The band recorded demos for Chrysalis Records and in the spring of 1994 they recorded two tracks ‘Believer’ and ‘Dilate’ at Pentagon Studios in Bristol for release on a Yeovil indie label- Hair Records and a compilation entitled ‘Hair Trigger’.

They played Ashton Court Festival in 1994 but with the arrival of Britpop, the record companies were looking elsewhere. Elastica’s single was called ‘Stutter!’

After a brief line up change and a new manager the band split up at the end of 1994. Angelo Bruschini joined Massive Attack. Dom McCaffry made two albums with Cheltenham band ‘Silverman’. Matt Booth worked in music management and promotion. Jo Evans worked in education.
